Weekly Wins: Things to Do in Jax 8/29 – 9/4

Wednesday, August 29
– Lola’s Burrito & Burger Joint is always coming in clutch with the trivia. And what topic can beat Game of Thrones? Well, maybe, The Office… Anyways, come for a good time at 7:30 and remember, winter is coming.
– Throwing their 5-year anniversary class from 7-9 PM in San Marco, Painting with a Twist is offering $10 OFF! Whooooo! This special event has giveaways and complimentary champagne!!! Don’t miss out on some painting and fun, all for $25!
Thursday, August 30
– While the trivia topic remains a mystery, Flask & Cannon is prepared to party at 7:30 with some trivia! They have a great drink menu and awesome bartenders. They also share seating with V Pizza if you want to munch on something, too. Win, win.
– While the Wicked Barley Buckeyes Networking Event is focused on Ohio State Alumni, all are welcome! Wicked Barley is hosting this event at 6 PM for $10 per person. Don’t worry, it includes 2 drinks and heavy appetizers. So even if you don’t like anyone you meet, at least there is beer for your Thirsty Thursday.
Friday, August 31
– Surfer is always the life of the party, hosting Chillula at 9:30 PM Friday night. If you’ve never heard of Chillula (or think of a chinchilla, like me), they actually play a mix of funk and R&B. So skip on over with your friends, get yourself a drink, and rock on.
– Maybe you’re sick of going to the same bars and looking for a new scene. Well, PGS Productions is having their Friday night party from 9 PM – 2 AM, where everything goes. Ladies get in free before 10 and drink free until 11, and even guys get unlimited drinks before 10!
Saturday, September 1
– So CPR class may not seem like your usual Saturday activity, but it never hurts to learn CPR (unless, ya know, someone is pressing hard on your sternum incorrectly…). From 1:30-4:30 is giving you hands-on practice for a CPR/AED course. It’s only $30, so don’t forget to preregister!
– Love to dance? Want to stay fit? Let’s mix both of these desires at Dance Trance downtown! On Saturdays, the class involves break down dancing and is a full 2-hour workout. Drop-in rate is only $15 a class, so bring a friend and LET’S.GET.DANCING.
Sunday, September 2
– At 3 PM, TIAA Bank Field will be booming with roaring applause as Lynyrd Skynyrd hits the stage on their Farewell Tour. With tickets as low as $40, snag a friend or hot date and get a seat to see the one & only Lynyrd Skynyrd.
– Myth Nightclub is at it again with another big party. This Labor Day Luau is going to be a true Sunday Funday, with all the cool people having work off on Monday! 9 PM – 2 AM, prepare to dance to your socks off and do it all for free, with a registered ticket.
Monday, September 3
– I know it seems like there is a lot of trivia in Jacksonville, but that is because there is a lot of trivia in Jacksonville. Mellow Mushroom is the hosting restaurant this time! 7 PM at the Saint Johns Ave location – it is going down.
– Like fruity drinks and alcohol? Perfect. Come on down to The Volstead at 4 PM for a treat. The Volstead and Natalie’s Orchid Island Juice Company are bringing a summer twist on all of the craft cocktails, with a hint of yummy juice. They have 3 specific drinks samples for free and you can get it at the bar after!
Tuesday, September 4
– Okay, it’s Tuesday, Labor Day Weekend is over, and you NEED a drink. Great! Because Culhane’s Irish Pub is reviewing Irish beers and other beer-centric destinations at 7 PM during their Beer Tourism. Of course, there is sampling and you can purchase all types of beer!
– With live music every Tuesday night, top local musicians jam out at That Bar at the Arena (what a name for a bar). Jam sessions start at 9 PM with free admission! If you want to jam, bring your instruments. If you want to listen, bring your ears.
