Dusty Slay at The Comedy Zone
You can take the boy out of the trailer park, but you can’t take the trailer park out of the boy… stand-up comedian Dusty Slay grew up poor on Lot 8 of a mobile home neighborhood in Opelika, Alabama, with a love for both classic country and rock and a career history peppered with jobs like waiting tables and selling pesticides. The trucker hat, long hair and mustache, flannel shirt and oversized glasses aren’t affectations to cultivate a stage persona as the B-side of a 1970s Bob Seger track—it’s just Dusty. $20; 7:30 p.m.; 3130 Hartley Rd, Jacksonville, FL; comedyzone.com // @comedyzonejax

Matisyahu at The Saint Augustine Amphitheater
Fans within the improvisational-jam scene began flocking to Matisyahu’s shows shortly after “King without a Crown” climbed the charts and Matisyahu’s follow up record Youth was nominated for a Grammy, but the blessings and curses of mainstream success each took root. While Matisyahu’s bands have always been composed of serious multidimensional players who have artfully molded the foundations of roots reggae into many genres, that early; if only a brief display of complete surrender to the music, seemed in some way to take a back seat. Through his lyrics however, Matisyahu developed a more personal, artistic, and sophisticated way to express the yearning for deep spiritual meaning, and as his own beliefs opened up to find more variety and depth, the desire for his performances to match the unpredictable flow of life developed as well. $32 – $35; 7:30 p.m.; 1340C A1A S, St. Augustine, FL; theamp.com // @theampsa

Combining performance and visual arts, this dynamic one-actor piece invites us to collectively examine our, and the artist’s, role in society.
