Hole-in-the-Wall Bars are in this Season so Dive into Jacksonville’s Most Charming Dive Bars!

When you’re talking to someone younger and they say they want to go out, you immediately think of those crowded, social bars where the music is loud and the guys are creepy.

But if we told you that Jacksonville has a good number of secret dive bars that pour on the charm, you would be all in.

Luckily for you, there’s no shortage of low-key bars and breweries that are still super popular with super drinks.

Here are 6 of our favorite Jacksonville dive bars that will help you live the #FrayLife.

Fly’s Tie

Fly’s Tie Irish Pub is such a hole-in-the-wall that it doesn’t even have a website. This quaint little bar is located in Atlantic Beach and has a ton of beer choices for anyone searching to get drunk. They have a ton of live music, with a lot of bands that sing songs by the Beatles, Black Sabbath, and other classic bands. It has a dark, smokey inside and a charming, decorated patio to mix it up.

#FrayLife Tip: The outdoor walls are essentially a collection of every sticker that has ever been made. Make sure to add to the eclectic mix by bringing your own sticker to slap on the wall.

Green Room Brewery

Known as one of the best dive bars in Jax Beach, Green Room has a ton of specialized beers in the front and a party in the back. With choices like giant Connect 4, Ping Pong, board games, and lifesize Jenga, it is impossible not to be entertained at this bar. If that’s not enough, Green Room brews their own super strong, local beers. The favorites are always available but every once in a while they like to switch it up and release new flavors.

#FrayLife Tip: Green Room has live music on weekends and even offers a wine & painting class every month.

Engine 15

Engine 15 encompasses the YOLO life by offering great beers, events, and a mini-arcade at both of its two awesome locations. The best game, by far, is the alley roller…but be warned, it becomes a lot harder when you’re drunk. Aside from just their vast list of beer, Engine 15 also offers small plates and desserts! Talk about getting it all at just one spot.

#FrayLife Tip: Engine 15 has a lot of pairing events with other local companies to offer more than just their beer (they pair with Minibar a lot for donuts) so they are a big team player!

Southern Swells Brewing Co.

Southern Swells actually tried to make everyone less anxious about hurricanes by offering a Hurricane-Irma themed beer. And while we don’t actually know how well that worked, we do know that this place really tries to cater to everyone. They offer vegetarian pizzas, tacos, and milkshake IPAs – BOOM. Not to mention that they offer Southern Swells gear in the Star Wars style & font to appease their Star Wars fans. Southern Swells is also super supportive of local artisans and bars – they recently posted on their Facebook page to help out Green Room when someone stole a piece of artwork off the wall.

Ginger’s Place

If you’re looking for affordable drinks at a place where a man might possibly play his harmonica on stage, Ginger’s is the place. Because Ginger’s is named after the mermaid spirit of Ginger, the locals that own the bar like it to be known as “the haunted dive bar” for all of the happy spirits that hang around for good music and good times.

#FrayLife Tip: Karaoke is HUGE here and people come and tear it up on Wednesdays and Saturdays until 2am.

Pete’s Bar

Another hidden gem with no website, Pete’s gets packed based only on word of mouth. This place looks so sketchy until you walk in and find out it’s awesome. With pool tables and music, everyone from Atlantic Beach comes here to socialize when nothing else is going on. Also, during Thanksgiving time, a big parade is held in Atlantic Beach and Pete’s BLOWS UP with visitors.

#FrayLife Tip: If you don’t like smokey bars, this might not be the place for you.

Whether you’re on the search for a social environment, a biker gang, a good beer, or some Star Wars gear, we got you covered. Good news is if you’re a dive bar junkie, Jacksonville is the place for you.
