Here’s Your Definitive Guide to the Most Fun Things to Do in Jax this August

Maybe you’ve hit that time in your life where you’re making a change. You’re trying to be more positive. You’re trying to take advantage of every day. You’re looking for adventure! …Or you’re just the opposite and try to perfectly plan everything out or else you stress about it. Well, you party-people (and planning-people), I have got the next month of activities covered for you!

Wednesday, August 1

– To kick off the month, why not start it with a free festival?! From 5-9 PM, the USGBC Florida Green Lion Festival (don’t ask what that stands for) will be happening at the Downtown Jacksonville Art Walk! The goal is to promote green-focused businesses, and they do that by giving you free stuff… Win, win.

Thursday, August 2

– At 7:30 PM at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena, get ready for Cirque Du Soleil, the largest theatrical production in the world. The Corteo edition is about the clown, Mauro, who died and his exuberant funeral of laughter. Sounds odd, but it’s a great (yet eccentric) show!

– Put yourself in total TBT mode at Vans Warped Tour: Last Call at The Old Cypress Lot near Met Park! Warped Tour started back in 1995 and is finalizing its cross-country tour this year! Be sure to grab tickets for the final time.

Friday, August 3

– Run into August the right way with the Tour de Pain 4 mile run! The race begins at 4:30 pm! If you are interested in participating, registration is still open!

Saturday, August 4

– Do you love bacon? Well at 4 PM, you can find all your favorite bacon foods and bacon-inspired cocktails at this Bacon Fest at the Sheraton Jacksonville Hotel. There are also Bacolympics and Bold City Grill will even be infusing a special bacon beer!

Sunday, August 5

– Come to Daily’s Place at 6:30 on Sunday for some good ‘ole American rock music by O.A.R. Tickets are starting around $30, so get yours and get ready to rock!

Monday, August 6

– As WWE star John Cena said, “The Champ is here.” Well, guys, WWE is here in Jacksonville! At the Veterans Memorial Arena, they will be featuring certain superstars like Ronda Rousey, Bobby Lashley, and Roman Reigns! So if you’re one of those people that enjoys the appeal of wrestling (even if you know it is fake), don’t miss this.

Tuesday, August 7

– So this class sounded very interesting. For anyone that loves beer (come on, that’s a lot of us), there is a Beer School at Alewife Craft Beer Shop that looks at impacts of aging beer in wood and the factors that influence the flavor of the finished beer. It’s $25 and you get to taste the finished product!

Wednesday, August 8 – Sunday, August 12

– The Mississippi Braves will be playing the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp at 7:05 PM at the Jacksonville Baseball Grounds for 5 straight nights! Anyone that needs a bit of action, you have almost a whole week of some minor league baseball to fuel your fire.

Thursday, August 9

Who is already pumped for football season?! The whole city of Jacksonville – that’s who! Well if you can’t wait, the Jags’ first pre-season game is against the Saints at EverBank Field at 7 PM. Tickets start at $13, but the fun and football pump is priceless.

Friday, August 10

– We all love some live music, right? Head to this free event at 9 PM at Surfer in Jacksonville Beach for a little bit of reggae. As part of their Hot Sand Summer Tour, Dubbest and the Freecoasters will be on stage together for a night of good vibes and good booze.

Saturday, August 11

– Put your painting skills to the test with Painting with a Twist’s Summer Path painting class! Bring along friends and family and learn how to beautifully paint like a real artist would! And for all those 21+, you can drink while you paint to make the experience even better!

Sunday, August 12

– Well, it’s Jacksonville. So we know everyone loves surfing. Do you love it enough to come out as early as 8 AM on a Sunday to watch it? The third contest by ESA North Florida Surfing will be held at the Jacksonville Beach Pier for amateur surfers. Even though they’re amateurs, they shred.

Tuesday, August 14

– From 5 to 9 PM, the Jax Beach Art Walk will be going down! You get a chance to preview local vendors’ art and buy some good stuff. While you stroll next to the beach bars, you can always sit down and grab a drink. Sounds like a grand ‘ole time.

Wednesday, August 15

– As Wiz Khalifa and Rae Sremmurd say, “A different lane, we sipping champagne”, let’s all do that exact same thing at their concert. As part of their Dazed & Blazed Tour, these 2 rappers are coming to Daily’s Place at 6 PM. Tickets start at $30 and you better believe the whole city is about to be turnt.

Saturday, August 18

The timeless ISKCON Festival of Chariots may sound a little weird when I say the goal is to celebrate and that there is a multi-cultural program on-stage, but it actually is really fun…and includes alcohol. Totally free and totally fun, I see no reason not to experience a little bit of this Indian culture down in Jax Beach at the SeaWalk Pavilion.

– Bee Friends Farm is celebrating National Honey Bee Day (bet you didn’t know that was real, huh?) to the absolute MAX with the Honeybee Festival at the Jacksonville Fairgrounds! It’s a free, family-friendly event where you can even learn about beekeeping and shop with local vendors. The biggest plus is that it is air-conditioned, so no excuses!

Monday, August 20

– I don’t know if you were ever one of those kids that grew up hearing Evanescence playing all around your city…maybe that was just me. But they are pairing up with Lindsey Stirling, who is an awesome American violinist, to come party at Daily’s Place in Jacksonville. You know it’s going to be big when tickets are already at $75. Come out at 7 PM for a good time.

Thursday, August 23

– Does anyone still feel like they need more music, beer, and food? The Florida Theatre is throwing a big party from 5:30-8:30 and are taking serious pride in their wings, pork, and smoked brisket. Enjoy your BBQ with unlimited samples of craft beer, and LIVE Blues music performed by The Snacks Blues Band and Beale Street!

Friday, August 24 – Sunday, August 26

– So this one sounds odd, but basically, you get a weekend full of amazing tattooing and art, plus a big party. Even if you don’t want tattoos, it’s pretty cool to watch. One day admission is $20 or the whole sha-bang is $35. Maybe if you’ve wanted a tattoo but haven’t taken the plunge, go to the Renaissance Resort at World Golf Village to take a risk.

Saturday, August 25

– Who needs a pre-season football game if you missed the first one?! The Jags will take on the Falcons at 7 PM at EverBank Field. Get pumped, get buzzed, and get watching. Go Jags.

Sunday, August 26

– We all love TopGolf. That’s a no-brainer. But to even add a more positive aspect, you can still tee off and whack golf balls AND help raise money for the North Florida School of Special Education. Everyone is welcome to hit some balls, enjoy lunch, and participate in a silent auction.

Wednesday, August 29

– At 6:30 PM, plan on “hanging around” (get the pun?) for some aerial yoga! At Flying Colors Aerial Yoga, they are doing an all-skill-levels class for 1 hour. Has anyone really wanted to try this? There are numerous health benefits, so join the class for only $20!

Thursday, August 30

– Did you go to Jacksonville University? Neither did I. Do you know someone that did? Right on. All JU alumni, families, and friends are invited to attend JU Night at the Jumbo Shrimp! If you reserve your ticket, you get all the burgers and hot dogs you want from 6-7 beforehand!

Friday, August 31

– The Florida Theatre (once again) is holding another cool event, but this time, with Brian McKnight. He is a Grammy-nominated R&B singer and has topped Billboard charts with his hit songs. From 8-11 PM, he will be tearing up the stage! Fun fact, he plays 9 instruments (in addition to his great voice)!

There you have it folks – a good summary of everything going down in Jacksonville for August. If nothing in there sounds appealing to you, well then, you’re just plain boring. Just kidding.
