Best Ways to Kill Time at JAX
We’ve all been stuck at the airport with some time to kill, sometimes you succumb to our inner Dad impulses and show up three hours before takeoff, sometimes your flight is massively delayed for no good reason. You can only stare at your phone for so long so we’ve got a few other ideas for ways to kill time at the Jacksonville International Airport.
Get a massage and a mani/pedi at Comfort Zone Spa
What’s a better instant stress reliever than a quick trip to the spa? Feel the frustration of air travel melt away with a quick ten to thirty minute chair massage or a more focused twenty to thirty minute foot massage provided by their trained masseuses. If you’re face to face with a brutal flight delay and you have a few hours to kill, go all out with a full body massage in a trio of styles, Swedish, aromatherapy, and a stimulating deep tissue massage, each ranging in time from a half hour to ninety minutes. They also offer a variety of manicure and pedicure services, each lasting about thirty minutes apiece. 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Concourse A; comfortzonespa.net
Try a tasting flight of wines at Vino Volo
Forego your the typical pre-flight beer for something a bit classier and, perhaps, educational. Vino Volo is one of the classiest eateries in the airport, offering small plates and bar bites, as well as heartier dishes like flatbreads and decadent sandwiches. If you’re struggling to decide what to pick from their expansive wine list, they offer the chance to sample a trio of wines form each of their eight featured categories. From bubbly sippers like Celebration Sparklers to the high quality Sommelier Series, their tasting trios are a great way to try several wines in one sitting without getting so loaded that they don’t let you on the plane. 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Concourse C; vinovolo.com // @vinovolo
Take in a few art exhibits
You can find world class artwork popping up in different areas including six gallery spaces throughout the Jacksonville International Airport, like gorgeous ceramics from Florida-based artist and educator Kathy Skaggs found at the Connector Bridge and a mixed media exhibition at the Haskell Gallery featuring a variety of work from Larry Wilson, an acclaimed Jacksonville artist. All work on display is also available for purchase, so if something really catches your eye, there’s a chance you can add it to your personal collection. jaxairportarts.com
Listen to some live music
The JAX Airport Live live music program welcomes a diverse roster of Jacksonville-area musicians to perform in the airport’s central courtyard. Featured performers include jazz pianist Shawn Pfaffman, pop vocalist Velour, and magnetic singer/pianist Rod Mathews. Be sure to bring a few dollars to throw their way for tips (or to buy a CD if you’re really digging it). 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Central courtyard
Eat and drink golf at the PGA Tour Grill
Golf lovers and fitness nuts alike will find themselves right at home at the health food focused, golf themed PGA Tour Grill. With an eye towards incorporating healthy superfoods like quinoa, pomegranate, and legumes into their menu as much as possible, their flavorful dining options will keep you sated without feeling overfull before a long haul flight.
